These five room makeovers from Calico customers may inspire you to upgrade the window treatments in your own home to add privacy, glare control and softly filtered light:

1. Katie Wick, Minneapolis, Minnesota

Katie Wick and her husband have a design-build company in Minneapolis. They wanted to control the glare coming into their dining and great room area, especially strong in the winter months when the sun sits lower on the horizon. Working with a Calico designer in our Edina, Minnesota store, she chose Designer Banded Shades, mounted inside the window frame, in a Dobby Light Filtering fabric.

“As a design build company, we are big fans of other one-stop shop businesses that manage everything for a project,” notes Katie. “Calico designers helped me select the perfect shade. Then a Hunter Douglas installer came to measure and specify everything down to the wand length.”

Katie also chose a Hunter Douglas control system for her shades. PowerView™ Motorization allows control for ideal lighting all day via phone, tablet or smart home device. Within weeks, new shades were professionally installed and ready to enjoy. “Calico made updating our window treatments easy!” added Katie.

2. Nina Takesh, Los Angeles, California

Can you spot the Hunter Douglas shades in this sitting area of Nina’s master bedroom? As an interior designer, Nina knew that sleek design options were available in blackout shades that would add privacy and eliminate morning sun glare without needing to draw the draperies.

Working with the Calico store in Studio City, Nina chose cordless Designer Roller Shades from Hunter Douglas that hide behind a 2-inch cassette header that complements the window frame. The night-to-day shades are raised and lowered effortlessly with a light touch on the bottom bar. Designer Roller Shades are a great choice for many window challenges!

3. Leslie Saeta, Ventura, California

“Sleepless nights were a huge problem in our beach house after a remodel,” recalled Leslie Saeta, a popular blogger and Instagrammer at My 100 Year Old Home. “The master bedroom was all windows, and the view is spectacular—but it felt like a fishbowl!”

Leslie and her husband needed window treatments that provided privacy and light control while also adding style and elegance. The solution? Hunter Douglas Vignette® Duolite® shades. “These Roman shades combine a sheer or light-filtering fabric along with a room-darkening back panel on a single roller,” explained Leslie.

Leslie worked with a designer at the Calico store in Pasadena to consider the Hunter Douglas styles and review additional features. “We knew we wanted motorization, with both a remote and the app on our phones. This is especially useful for hard-to-reach windows or to eliminate cords,” noted Leslie.
