Five designers recently partnered with Calico to create custom ottomans that can ship by FedEx in just three to four weeks—about half the time for standard COM upholstered furniture projects! Ottomans can do double duty in so many ways—as a place to rest your feet, provide extra seating or a base for a tray table. Place these small-scale ottomans beneath a console table, at the foot of a bed or in a bay window to add a shot of color or pattern.

Gail Disner: @thesoutherngail
Gail has been renovating a 1930s colonial house and worked with the Calico store in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan to create two Eric Ottomans in green velvet for her entrance hall. The sculptural wood bases pick up the curves in the ocean art above the table.
“The in-store experience made it so easy to choose my fabric and how I wanted the ottomans finished,” said Gail. The performance velvet she chose, Dreamy in color Pickle, can be easily cleaned with a little dish soap and water.
“I also love that their design services are totally free,” noted Gail. “It’s the easiest upgrade I’ve made!”
Gail chose a performance velvet called Dreamy for the Eric Ottomans in her foyer. Dreamy comes in many colors and adds a plush touch to a room of hard surfaces. The Eric Ottoman can also be covered in leather.
Brittany Palazzo: @addisonswonderland
With an obsession for “anything and everything full of color and pattern”, interior designer Brittany Palazzo enlivened her “dark, moody family room” with two McGee Ottomans covered in a vining floral print that complements the blue velvet sofa.
“I love using upholstered ottomans to add a soft visual touch to a space, as well as extra seating,” noted Brittany. At just 22” square, these ottomans can tuck in almost anywhere and are the perfect size to rest your feet.
Brittany and her husband visited the Calico store in Atlanta to choose from “their huge selection of gorgeous fabrics and eight different Quick Ship ottoman styles.” They narrowed the selection to three before deciding on the textured print Briar in Indigo, a Crypton performance fabric.
Natalie Papier: @home_ec_op
Artist and self-educated designer Natalie Papier is noted for her bold, playful interiors. “Homes should reflect the people who live in them—and be full of life, character and warmth!” states Natalie.
Working with the Calico store in Charlotte, North Carolina, Natalie chose two different ottomans to grace her home. Her requirements? Both had to be multi-functional as well as aesthetically pleasing.
The first choice was an Eric Ottoman with Mediterranean style, covered in the chunky jacquard Madagascar in Onyx to pick up touches of black in the art and décor of her living room.
For her vibrant family room, Natalie wanted extra seating for guests. A McGee Ottoman was a bold addition, covered in the artsy chenille Zeppelin in Indigo.
This zingy ottoman can scoot around to provide a seat for a game player or a perch to chat with guests on the sofa. The McGee Ottoman can also be covered in leather.

Nina Takesh: @ninatakesh
Nina is an interior designer who wanted to make the black-and-white foyer of her home in Los Angeles feel more intentional, less stark, styled yet functional,” she explained. “These deep rust Carmen Ottomans did exactly that!”
Working with the Calico store in Pasadena, California, Nina chose a performance velvet called Dreamy in Autumnal, a “gorgeous rust-meets-burgundy color.” Fabrics always look different in person than in photos, she observed, so it’s important to see them for real.
“The velvet Carmen Ottomans add a tiny pop of color,” noted Nina, “but paired with everything else, it somehow makes the whole house feel more layered.” She repeated that velvet on a pillow to carry the color into an adjoining room. “It’s the little things like this that let a space feel personal and really thought-through,” she stated.
Annie Mescall: @anniemescallhome
“Did you know you can make your own custom furniture?” asks Annie Mescall. And so she did, working with designers in the Calico Midtown store in Houston, Texas. Annie and her husband selected two Destin Ottomans for their living room.
“We chose Calico because they offer a great selection of ottomans in their Quick Ship program that you can customize to your liking with fabrics and trims,” said Annie. “We instantly knew that this brown striped fabric was the one,” she recalled.

Visit a Calico design shop near you to see our Quick Ship Ottoman program. Eight ottoman styles will ship in 3-4 weeks after the fabric arrives at the manufacturer in North Carolina. Finished ottomans are sent via FedEx Ground directly to a customer’s home, reducing overall delivery time. Six styles are available in fabric or leather; Carmen and Elizabeth must be in fabric only, due to their skirted design. Positano leather for Quick Ship Ottomans comes in 10 colors—a range of browns and grays, plus burgundy and navy. Destin and Hampton styles are also available in a leather top with fabric on the sides.
