Sheers and lace fabrics filter the light coming into the room and add a soft note to window treatments. They are often used as an under curtain with a heavier decorative fabric as stationary side panels. If sheer fabrics or laces are used alone in draperies, a lining fabric can be made as an under drapery to draw at night for privacy. These delicate fabrics keep out glare, protect furnishings from fading and obscure less desirable views. They can often be made up as Roman shades or balloon shades.
