Measuring for Window Treatments

Complete our worksheet so we can provide an accurate quote for your project. Rough measurements will be helpful as there is no such thing as a "standard" window!

 Measuring Your Windows Worksheet

Measuring Hints:

1.

Use a metal measuring tape, not a ruler or cloth tape measure.  Write your measurements in the spaces provided and double-check them!

2.

Measure all windows, even if they appear to be the same size.  The differences may surprise you.  Note the location of each window, using multiple forms as needed.

3. With decorative traverse rods and café curtains hung by rings, start measuring from the bottom of the rings.

Special Notes on Window Shades, Swags and Valances:

Inside mounting allows the window treatment to hang inside the frame of your window.  Check the depth so that we can be sure it will accommodate the mounting board.  When taking measurements for inside-mounted window treatments, please do not deduct any allowances.

Outside mounting allows the window shade to hang above the window casing or molding.  It may also give the illusion of a taller window.

The Value of Professional Measuring and Installation

Our professional installers will come to your home and measure your windows before a yard of fabric is cut. The fee is modest and there are good reasons to invest in this service.  Hanging window treatments is not just another "honey-do" job when you’re holding 30 pounds of fabric panels, high up on a 12-foot ladder, trying to adjust sharp pins!  Our installers will make the whole process go quickly and smoothly.  We know they’ve saved many marriages.  Here’s what to expect:

1.

They’ll measure with your window treatments in mind, noting all the architectural features that have to be accommodated — doors, moldings, bookcases, radiators and so forth.

2.

They’ll evaluate existing drapery rods and whether they’re worth keeping.

3.

They’ll plan for installation of new drapery rods and support brackets — and whether additional window hardware is required to carry the weight of the window treatment.

4.

They’ll take exact measurements — and Calico will be fully responsible for the products made to these specifications.

5.

They’ll check where valances or cornices will be positioned and make sure that any window treatments beneath will fit and function properly.

6.

Finally, our installers are specialists.  They have tools and tricks to help window treatments hang beautifully.  They’ll also steam and dress draperies and shades so that they will break correctly when opening and closing.

Calico's professional Measure and Installation Service is an inexpensive insurance policy that your window treatments will fit perfectly and look gorgeous!
