IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON SHADE SAFETY


Calico Corners - Calico Home is committed to helping you protect your family from potential home hazards. As you may know, window shades containing cords can pose a home hazard, especially for young children and pets. At Calico, we consider safety issues to be of the utmost importance and have been a leader in working with our suppliers to assure that the products we sell meet or exceed all applicable industry standards
and guidelines.

Though manufacturing guidelines have been in place for over ten years to help prevent injuries, some accidents have continued to occur. Late in 2009, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), working with the industry group, Window Covering Manufacturers Association (WCMA), announced a plan to improve the manufacturing standards for corded window treatments. These updated standards were released in late September 2010 to be effective in December 2010.

Shades sold in Calico Corners and Calico Home stores currently meet all applicable industry and government standards. Now that the new standards have been released, we have been working with our shade manufacturers to produce shades that meet or exceed the new standards in advance of
the effective date.
